Can Reducing Stress in Your Life Help Prevent or Control Gum Disease?

Recent studies are showing a link between stress and gum disease.  It is not yet known how this happens, but many believe stress limits the ability of the immune system to function fully, allowing bacteria in the mouth to take over.  There is also evidence that patients under stress develop more plaque than the average person.
From what we see, most people have a lot of stress in their lives.  This stressful way of living can contribute to heart problems, headaches, and other medical conditions.  It can also put teeth at risk from clenching and grinding..
We encourage you to find ways to relieve the stress in your life.  After all, taking care of your stress is taking care of you.
